Our Full Tilt Feature: The Poetry of Kim Hyesoon

It is our great pleasure to present the work of South Korean feminist poet and literary critic Kim Hyesoon 김혜순 as our feature for this first issue of Full Tilt , for frankly we think she is one of the most exciting poets we have seen in many years. A teacher in the creative writing program at Seoul College of the Arts, Kim is the first woman to receive the coveted Kim Su-yang Poetry Award. She is a true poetic innovator and yet her work is surprisingly accessible despite its cutting edge. Although translations of her poems have begun to appear in English and other languages the last few years, she is still relatively unknown outside of South Korea even in the neighboring countries of East Asia . It is thus our privilege as well as our pleasure to present both English and Chinese translations of a half-dozen of our favorite Kim poems along with an abridged version of an interview that originally appeared in the cultural studies journal positions. Our thanks go out to Kim Hyesoon and her English translator Don Mee Choi for their help in putting this feature together and for their permission in reprinting the English translations.
